The Black Cage Princess and the Yearning King

Konbawa~
Today I’m going to be reviewing the oneshot Kuroorihime to Kawaki no Ou by Kusanagi Mizuho. Oneshots are usually cliché shoujo romances with average or below average art, which doesn't make them bad, they’re usually still cute and entertaining. Anyway, there are exceptions and Kurrorihime to Kawaki no Ou is one of them: the art is beautiful and elegant, fitting the story quite well. Alright, so Setia is the princess of small clan known as the Ulfa clan. They are a rather weak clan and the bloodline is beginning to disappear, so her parents decide to marry her to a wealthier prince. Their wish is for her to continue their bloodline and to become a happy bride. But on the journey to her fiancée’s kingdom, her traveling party is attacked by bandits. Setia witnesses everyone’s murder, including her parents, and is the sole survivor of the incident. While digging a grave for her parents, the powerful King Azurite and his traveling party meet her. Intrigued by this blood stained bride, he decides to take to his castle. It seems like a rather nice gesture, except for the fact that she doesn't want to be there. She wishes to meet her fiancée and fulfill her parent’s final wish for her. She constantly tries to escape, which doesn't bother the tyrant king who enjoys capturing her and toying with her.
There first meeting
The characters are very well-developed for an oneshot, Setia a strong, bold, and honest/direct protagonist and Azurite a selfish, cruel, ruthless king. And both of them suffer a loneliness, a feeling that they have to take care of themselves. And Azurite, who has a dangerous reputation, seems to become childish and rather bratty around Setia. Though he does do some things that make you think you should hate him, you can’t help but like him and empathize with him. As Setia comes to understand him, the reader comes to understand him. Its really great writing and a wonderful story, so I highly recommend stopping what you’re doing and reading it, it’s only a oneshot after all. An amazing oneshot, but still not very time consuming
